SHE LEADS: Power, Purpose & Progress – Raising Women’s Role in Jordan’s Energy Future
Amman, Jordan

Official Launch of the “SHE LEADS: Power, Purpose & Progress in Jordan’s Energy Future” working Event Series within the Jordanian-German Energy Partnership
On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the groundbreaking workshop “SHE LEADS: Power, Purpose & Progress – Advancing Women’s Leadership in Jordan’s Energy Sector” was officially launched by H.E. Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and jointly opened by Ms. Anne Jacobs-Schleithoff from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, emphasizing the strategic importance of women’s roles in shaping the future of the energy sectors in both countries.
The launch event welcomed over 90 participants from across Jordan’s energy ecosystem — representing public institutions, private companies, NGOs, and academia. Attendees came from diverse professional backgrounds, including technical, operational, and leadership roles, demonstrating a collective commitment to broad and inclusive engagement.
At the core of the workshop were open, in-depth discussions addressing the current challenges and structural barriers women face in the energy sector. Participants exchanged practical strategies to promote women’s leadership, focusing on enhancing institutional frameworks, developing leadership and technical skills, and fostering inclusive workplace practices. A standout feature was the interactive “Skills Bingo” activity, which sparked dynamic conversations around critical competencies that remain underrepresented yet vital for the sector’s future growth.
This inaugural workshop is the first in a series planned throughout 2025 under the MEMR Task Force on Women in the Energy Sector. The series aims to create lasting, transformative impact by encouraging dialogue, breaking down systemic barriers, and opening new pathways for women to thrive and lead within Jordan’s evolving energy industry. Each session will build on the insights of the previous one, advancing a coherent and strategic journey toward a more inclusive, innovative, and future-ready energy sector.
The event series idea was jointly developed by the MEMR Task Force “Women in the Energy Sector” and the German Energy Agency (dena), with advisory, conceptual, and organizational support from the EDAMA Association for Energy, Water, and Environment. This initiative marks a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen and elevate the role of women throughout Jordan’s energy landscape.
The initiative will also extend its reach beyond urban centers into rural communities, ensuring the bilateral efforts resonate broadly and engage diverse communities nationwide in shaping Jordan’s energy future.
