Energy Startup Day: Creating a strong energy startup ecosystem by connecting stakeholders with innovative spirit and know-how
Amman, Jordan
Jordan/Germany, 25 November 2025 - The virtual Energy Startup Day, organised under the scope of the German-Jordanian Energy Partnership by the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) and the German Energy Agency (dena), on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), brought together energy innovation stakeholders from Jordan and Germany to discuss issues pertinent to the growth of energy start-up ecosystems and to promote future cooperation.
The event was co-led by Co-Leader of the Task Force - Eng. Omar Barqawi, Head of the Innovation and Knowledge Management Department at MEMR and Tahar Kechrid, Senior Expert for Startup Ecosystems at dena. Opening remarks were delivered by Eng. Yacoub Marar, Director of Energy Transition at MEMR, and Dr. Jochen Zimmermann, Head of Division Startups, Digital Networking, Digital Hub Initiative at BMWE.
A panel discussion explored the foundations of a strong energy start-up ecosystem, emphasising the importance of talent, access to capital, supportive and flexible regulations, entrepreneurship-friendly administration, and predictable technical standards. Speakers also highlighted the potential of networking platforms, university-driven incubators, and sector-specific support structures.
Following the panel, a startup and stakeholder pitch session was held, featuring innovators from Jordan and Germany. Participants included several start-ups previously engaged in the SET Tech Festival in March 2025, such as Algebra Intelligence, ION Electric Vehicle Charging Systems, and DARBCO Robotics, alongside contributions in water treatment, battery concepts, and university research initiatives.
The event aimed to create momentum for long-term cooperation, strengthen links between stakeholders, and support the development of a connected and resilient energy start-up ecosystem in Jordan.
