About the Energy Partnership
The Jordanian-German Energy Partnership was established in April 2019 with a joint declaration between the German Federal Government and the Government of Jordan. Main partners are the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).
Germany and Jordan are committed to create a sustainable, secure and affordable energy supply. Both countries work together to achieve an energy transition domestically as well as on a global scale. The partnership provides a forum for high-level political dialogue and brings together representatives from industry, finance, and academia to support a broader use of renewable energies and energy efficiency.
While a high-level dialogue between Jordan and Germany had already been established in 2016, both governments signed a Joint Declaration of Intent in 2019. Both countries agreed to establish a High-Level Steering Group and to set up a secretariat in the premises of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Amman. The secretariat serves as a point of contact and coordination regarding the activities of the bilateral Energy Partnership. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) are the responsible entities of the partnership. Together, the ministries agreed on the following priorities:
- Electricity grid and market development
- Energy efficiency
- Innovation in the energy sector
- Gender in the energy sector
The Energy Partnership continues to facilitate high-level expert exchange between Jordan and Germany, connecting representatives of government, industry, civil society, and academia to support the energy transition of both countries.
A remarkable result of the establishment of the Jordanian- German Energy Partnership is the German Energy Acadamy (GEA).
It’s a regional up-skilling center for renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grids and digitization for a wide range of professionals. It offers tailored trainings with a focus on practical skills that are needed in the labor market to implement the global energy transition.
